我们在翻译合同的时候，经常会遇到as of这个词，如果不结合上下文，真的拿捏不准它到底该翻译成什么意思。

as of作为表达时间的词，通常有三种翻译：(1)自......起（相当于as from）；(2)在......时候；(3)截至......。

下面的三个例句可以更好地说明问题：

例句一：That's why I propose, that as of today, You do not keep anything for a special occasion, because every day that you live is a special 

occasion. 这就是我为什么要说，从今天开始，不要为了一个特别的时刻而保留你的任何东西，因为你生活的每一天都是那么特别。

分析：这个句子，我们结合语境，很显然翻译为“自......开始”更为恰当。

例句二：This Agreement is entered into as of April 11, 2016 by and among the following Parties.本协议由以下各方于2016年4月11日订立。

分析：很显然这里选择第(1)个和第(3)个意思都是不合适的。

例句三： In the event that available vacation is not used as of the end of the benefit year, employees may not carry unused time forward to the next benefit year. Conversely ifemployees have used more vacation time than they earned throughout the benefit year the employee will repay the difference.

如果截至当年年末，员工尚有假期未休完，员工不得将未使用的假期转到下一年度。
