Champerty：An illegal agreement in which a person with no previous interest in a lawsuit finances it with a view to sharing the disputed property if the suit succeeds.

一种非法协议，由一个在诉讼中没有利益关系的人出资，目的是在诉讼成功时分享有争议的财产。诉讼一方与另一方在争议中毫无利益的人之间存在某种协定，若胜诉的话，双方瓜分存在争议的财物，代价为另一个人自费进行该诉讼

After discussing the torts of champerty and maintenance, the court concluded that neither had occurred in this case because there was no evidence of an improper motive, a necessary element of both torts.
