Sonnet 18
By William Shakespeare
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date;
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimmed.
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wanderest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest.
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
却难以辉映他黯淡的容颜;
何况忘怀你的迷人与美艳;
常常又遮暗他的金色的脸;
你不会失去你的俊美的仪容;
如果你在这不朽的诗句里获得了永生;
This poem comes from "“Shakespeare's sonnets", which contains 154 sonnets of Shakespeare. This poem is the 18th one, which is also a famous one.
The poem begins with a comparison of "you" with summer. But "you" is much more lovely than the summer, the nature of the most beautiful season and "you" compared to much less. You can overcome these inadequacies of nature. "You" is the eternal of the world, "you" will let the shadow of death in a distant place to stay, let the boast of death will not die. Is poetry, the quintessence of the human spirit, your form? Or you are the spirit of poetry, the soul of mankind.
