合同中“通知”一词，常译为notify或inform。其实，advice一词也可以指“通知”，具体可参考如下例句：

1. Notify

After knowing the occurrence of an insured incident, the insurance applicant, insured or beneficiary shall notify the insurer in a timely manner. Where the insurance applicant, insured or beneficiary fails to do so intentionally or for gross negligence, which makes it difficult to determine the nature, cause, degree of damage, etc. of the insured incident, the insurer need not pay indemnity or insurance benefits for the undeterminable part, unless the insurer has known or should have known the incident in a timely manner through any other channel.

投保人、被保险人或者受益人知道保险事故发生后，应当及时通知保险人。故意或者因重大过失未及时通知，致使保险事故的性质、原因、损失程度等难以确定的，保险人对无法确定的部分，不承担赔偿或者给付保险金的责任，但保险人通过其他途径已经及时知道或者应当及时知道保险事故发生的除外。

If the insurer deems that the relevant certificates and materials are incomplete according to the contract, it shall notify, in a timely manner and at one time, the insurance applicant, insured or beneficiary of all additional certificates and materials to be provided.

保险人按照合同的约定，认为有关的证明和资料不完整的，应当及时一次性通知投保人、被保险人或者受益人补充提供。

2. Inform

Where an offeree makes an acceptance beyond the time limit for acceptance, the acceptance shall be a new offer except that the offeror promptly informs the offeree of the effectiveness of the said acceptance.

受要约人超过承诺期限发出承诺的，除要约人及时通知受要约人该承诺有效的以外，为新要约。

When an arbitration commission receives a written application for arbitration and considers that the application complies with the conditions for acceptance, it shall accept the application and notify the party within five days from the date of receipt. If the arbitration commission considers that the application does not comply with the conditions for acceptance, it shall inform the party in writing of its rejection of the application and explain the reasons for rejection within five days from the date of receipt.

仲裁委员会收到仲裁申请书之日起五日内，认为符合受理条件的，应当受理，并通知当事人；认为不符合受理条件的，应当书面通知当事人不予受理，并说明理由。

3. Advise

 inform (someone) about a fact or situation, typically in a formal or official way(尤指正式地、官方地)通知

铁路部门通知收货人货物已经运抵、收货人可以提货的单据。对于未被提走的货物，铁路部门只作为仓库管理者〔warehouseman〕对由于其疏忽造成的损害负责，而非作为承运人对货物的损害负绝对责任〔absolute liability〕。

advising bank 通知行

就其他银行已开立信用证向受益人发出通知的银行。

The BUYER shall have the right, at any time within the duration of the PURCHASE ORDER to make any changes in the PURCHASE ORDER by additions deletions, substitutions, modifications or revisions thereto. The BUYER shall advise the SELLER of such changes by issuing written instructions in accordance with the ADMINISTRATION PROCEDURES.

买方有权在本订单有效期内的任何时候对订单进行变更,包括增加、删减、替换、变更或修正。但买方应按照管理程序通过书面指示通知卖方所做的这些变更。

The SELLER shall advise the BUYER if such requirements are in SELLER'S opinion, based on the information given by the BUYER， inadequate for the intended purpose of the Agreement.

如果在卖方看来,基于买方提供的信息,这些要求不足以满足本协议所欲达到的目的,则卖方应通知买方。
