appeal  既有名词词性，也有动词词性。在法律英语中通常被译为“上诉”。

n. 上诉；行政复议（指当事人对法院所作出的尚未发生法律效力的一审判决、裁定或评审决定，在法定期限内依法声明不服，提请上一级法院重新审判的活动；也用于指对行政机关裁决的行政复议。也称为petition in error）

学习appeal除了掌握其常见含义“上诉”外，还应掌握与其相关的一些常见词，如：

例 An appeal is a request to a higher （ appellate） court for that court to review and change the decision of a lower court.
