avoid一词的学习，在于掌握其与一些词汇的区别，具体如下：

avoid与void

avoid和void在法律意义上为同义词，但后者除动词词性外，还可以做名词，形容词。并且，由于avoid还具有“避免”，“回避”等一般含义，为避免混淆，多采用void表达。

avoid与cancel

一般而 言，avoid与cancel并不相同，在法律上有严格的区别。

avoid 一般用于合同或其他法律行为无效或被撤销的场合，合同或 其他法律行为自始无效；

cancel 一般用于合同解除的场合，解 除合同通常不具备溯及既往的效力。可以说，合同或其他法 律行为的无效，是由于其本身欠缺生效要件造成的，而解除合同是在当事人意思表示的支配下，因符合合同约定或法律规 定而形成的。

avoid a tax, dodge a tax 与 evade a tax

avoid a tax, dodge a tax 与 evade a tax均有不缴纳税收的含义。avoid a tax与 dodge a tax 同义，均指通过合法途径巧妙规避税收。故为“避税”或“规避赋税”，而evade a tax（偷税或逃税）则指非法偷税逃税。

例 The trustee may avoid any transfer of interest of the debtor in property.

例 If time allows, the party intending to declare the contract avoided must give reasonable notice to the other party in order to permit him to provide adequate assurance of his performance.
