“save”在普通英语中常用作“挽救”、“节约”等意思，作动词用，但在英文合同中通常用作连词，表示除……外，与except (for)相同。词源上这是一个法文词，由于历史原因，法国人统治英国相当长时间。自然而然，相当数量地、反映法国统治者意志的法语词进入了合同英语的范畴。Save便是其中较典型的、至今仍然保留使用的一个。不管是save还是except (for)，之后都可以跟一个名词性短语或介词短语，后加that时也可以跟一个从句。Unless则与save和except (for)意思相近，后可加短语，一般译为“除非”。

1.Save和except都常与as (is) provided/stipulated连用，在此情况下，它们的意思等于unless otherwise provided/stipulated

例句1：

Save as otherwise provided in this Contract, each Party shall bear its own legal and other professional costs in relation to the preparation, negotiation and entry into of this Contract.
