“支撑”一词是政府公文中的常见词，通常以两种方式出现：

a. 作名词，如“战略支撑”“有力支撑”“政策支撑”等；

b. 作定语，如“支撑作用”“支撑能力”等。

通常，看到“支撑”的第一反应是support。除了support，“支撑”一词还有其他译法。

一、作名词

“支撑”作名词，常见的译法有两种：

1. 可译为名词“support”“pillar”“underpinning”。

“支撑”作定语，如“支撑作用”“支撑能力”，侧重的是“作用”和“能力”，可以理解为“重要的作用”“重要的能力”，如：
