放纵走私罪，是指海关工作人员徇私舞弊，放纵走私，情节严重的行为。此罪名属于渎职罪。

走私（Smuggling），是指违反《中华人民共和国海关法》及有关法律、行政法规，逃避海关监管，偷逃应纳税款、逃避国家有关进出境的禁止性或者限制性管理的行为。
