重大飞行事故罪，是指航空人员违反规章制度，致使发生重大飞行事故（major flight accident），造成严重后果的行为。

其中，“严重后果”，是指造成人员重伤或者航空器严重损坏以及承运的货物毁坏等重大损失的情形。

《刑法》第131条规定：

航空人员违反规章制度，致使发生重大飞行事故，造成严重后果的，处三年以下有期徒刑或者拘役； 造成飞机坠毁或者人员死亡的，处三年以上七年以下有期徒刑。

Any aviation personnel who, in violation of rules and regulations, causes a serious flight accident, thus causing serious consequences, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years or criminal detention; If an aircraft crashes or a person dies, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than seven years.
