虽然说designation翻译为指定的情况比较多，如：designation of beneficiary (1)指定受益人；受益人的指定(2)（人寿保险单的）受益人指定条款，但在这里，翻译为指定确实不太合适。

经搜索，可从美国证监会备案的文件中找到以下关于股份的designation的表述：

Designation. The distinctive serial designation of such series of Preferred Shares is “7.95% Cumulative Redeemable Perpetual Preferred Shares – Series D” (“Series D Preferred Shares”). 由上文可知，7.95% Cumulative Redeemable Perpetual Preferred Shares – Series D即是其中所提及之股份的“designation”，而其更偏向于为股份的名称或称谓。因此，翻译时可将designation翻译为名称或称谓，如：

If the Company issues or creates any shares which do not carry voting rights, the words “non-voting” shall appear in the designation of such shares and if the equity capital of the Company shall include shares with different voting rights, the designation of each class of shares, other than those with the most favourable voting rights, shall include the words “restricted voting” or “limited voting”.
