查阅香港法例发现，有关“法官”的译名主要有两种，一种是“justice”，一种是“judge”。下面以香港司法机构为例，列举不同机构对法官的称呼：

终审法院（Court of Final Appeal）是香港特别行政区最高的上诉法院。终审法院法官由终审法院首席法官、3名常任法官及香港和海外非常任法官组成。终审法院首席法官（Chief Justice）是司法机构之首，负责司法机构的行政管理及执行其他合法地不时委予他的职能，须由行政长官根据司法人员推荐委员会的推荐委任，须由在外国无居留权的香港特区永久性居民中的中国公民担任。常任法官（permanent judge）须由行政长官根据司法人员推荐委员会的推荐委任。非常任法官（non-permanent judge）指非常任香港法官或获委任为其他普通法适用地区法官的法官，《香港终审法院条例》（第484章）规定，担任非常任法官职位的人士的总人数，无论在任何时候均不得超逾30名。

高等法院（High Court）由上诉法庭（Court of Appeal）和原诉法庭（Court of First Instance）组成。其中，上诉法庭由高等法院首席法官（Chief Judge of the High Court）为首，包括14位上诉法庭法官（Justice of Appeal）；原诉法庭也是由高等法院首席法官（Chief Judge of the High Court）为首，包括34位原诉法庭法官（judge of the Court of First Instance）。

区域法院（District Court）以首席区域法院法官（Chief District Judge）为首，并由主任家事法庭法官（Principal Family Court Judge）协助，包括42位区域法院法官（District Judge）。

例句1：

Where by or under any law any judicial or other act is required or authorized to be exercised or performed by the Chief Justice or by the Chief Judge of the High Court, such act other than an act in the performance of or relating to the performance of a function under the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal Ordinance (Cap. 484) may be exercised or performed by any judge of the High Court.

凡任何法律或根据任何法律规定或授权任何司法或其他作为由终审法院首席法官或高等法院首席法官行使或作出，该作为(根据《香港终审法院条例》(第484章)为履行或关于履行某项职能而行使或作出者除外)可由任何高等法院法官行使或作出。

In any cause or matter pending before the Court a single Justice of Appeal may at any time during any vacation make an interim order to prevent prejudice to the claims of any parties pending an appeal.

在法庭席前待决的任何讼案或事宜中，单一名上诉法庭法官可在任何休庭期内的任何时间，作出临时命令，防止等待上诉的任何一方的申索受到损害。
